Online Electric guitar lessons via Zoom with Cliff Smith, BMus(Hons).
The electric guitar is used for most styles of popular music. It can be strummed or picked with a plectrum (pick) or fingers.
Blues, rock ‘n’ roll through to rock
I give electric guitar lessons from beginner to advanced level, and teach everything from blues & rock ‘n’ roll through rock, pop, indie.
I also teach electric bottleneck/slide guitar. Slide guitar is great fun!
I have a lot of experience playing in rock bands. I started my first band in school and have played with many original and cover projects over the years. I played lead guitar in The Forgers cover band and Ultimate Beatles tribute band for many years.
I have a huge repertoire of electric guitar songs. For further details, visit my repertoire page.

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to start on the acoustic guitar! If you are into electric guitar music, and that is what drives you to want to learn to play – get yourself an electric guitar and start rocking out! The electric guitar is actually easier on your fingers than the acoustic due to the lower action and lighter string gauge.
I teach a lot of beginners. We usually start with some basic chords and strumming rhythms, adding in riffs, scales and soloing as we go. I like to work within the context of well known songs rather than dry exercises. We will learn to read simple music, notated in it’s various forms (notation, TAB, diagrams etc) as and when it is relevant to the music that we are playing. The same goes for the theory.
Play already? My electric guitar lessons can help you to fill in some of the fundamentals that you may have missed along the way. You may need to address some bad habits or technique deficiencies – I can help.
Perhaps you play well but don’t understand what you are playing? I can teach you how to ‘crack the code’. Learning where the notes are on the fretboard is a subject often missed by self-taught players.
Many people come to me to improve their lead playing. I can teach you all about chords, scales and arpeggios and how to use them.
